An Introduction To Geese Control

By Timothy West

There are many species of geese and they cause many problems for people. Droppings from these birds are one of the biggest problems. When the problems get too much then you will want to look at the options for geese control.

There is a number of companies who specialise in control of species which cause problems but there is also some homemade remedies that you can use. Home remedies can often be a lot cheaper than getting services from a company.

When you reach the point where you have had enough of the problems and you want to do something about it there is a number of options available. The first thing that you should do is to stop feeding the birds. These birds should not be feed in public area or on private land. It is important that the problem is dealt with before it becomes too big a problem. Making the property uninviting to the birds will help to reduce the problem and make controlling bird numbers a lot easier.

There is various methods of control that can be used to control the problem of geese and a lot of these methods are non-lethal. There is some companies that can use these methods to deal with the problem on your behalf. Regardless of where the problem is there are a lot of things that can be done as a way of dealing with the problem.

It is not a good idea to feed human food to any species of wildlife. Food that is consumed by humans is not good in the diet of a goose. Geese will rapidly become used to getting handouts from humans and they will become domesticated, which will attract more migrating or wild birds.

The population of geese can be controlled through the use of decoys. A collection of swan decoys can be useful when it comes to dealing with this problem. These decoys can prevent birds from nesting in an area. They tend to be aggressive when it comes to protecting their young which will deter other birds from nesting in this area. The bad thing about decoys is that they can be a bit of an eyesore, therefore, it is a good idea to only use them during the main migratory period.

Limit the access to water as this will reduce the number of birds by meaning that they are unable to get near the ponds or beaches. Several different methods can be used for this and one of the methods is to build a dock along the line of the water. The dock needs to be at a height which will be easy for the birds to get onto. Geese will be prevented from getting easy access to water if a bird fence is used.

Geese tend to head for the water when they are threatened. When you make access to water difficult it will force the birds to find a different area to build their nest.

There is a spray that you can get for the lawn and it contains an ingredient called Methyl anthanilate. This is a good grade substance that has been used for many years as a food flavouring and it is biodegradable. This substance will be broken down by the time that it enters into the water system.
