American companies lose millions of dollars every year because of having drug users in the workforce. Subsequently, the American and the global economy lose billions of dollars because of lowered productivity caused by substance use. The drug testing industry is a multi-billion sector. It has a number of players. There is a high demand for service providers who offer pre employemnt drug testing. This demand comes from businesses, industries, federal agencies, and Non Governmental Organizations, among others. If one wants to get a job, he has to first pass the interview. Subsequently, he should pass the substance test.

Thousands of companies all over the United States of America usually test potential hires for substances before they are hired. That is also the case in other countries such as Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, and Italy. The main motivation for doing so is the desire for a substance free workplace. This is the best workplace that a company can have.

Substance testing is not a new thing. It has existed for a number of decades. In addition, it will not end any time soon. It will continue existing till the end of time. This concept is gaining traction in many countries all over the world. The United States of America is on the forefront when it comes to this matter.

The last thing that an employer will want is for his workforce to have drug users. He will not even want to have a single substance user. Even if the employer is a regular user of substances, he will not desire his workers to be people who use substances. That is due to the many costs that are associated with employing substance abusers.

A substance user will be easily irritable. As a result, he will not easily work with other people. That kills team spirit and will make it hard to achieve goals. Such an individual is likely to enter into arguments with other employees. In the worst case scenario, he can even start fights. That will create a toxic work environment.

A number of substances are normally tested for. In most cases, alcohol is not tested for. That does not mean that alcoholics are tolerated in the workplace. Coming to work drunk or having signs of drunkenness will get one fired. Marijuana will have to be tested for. This is the most abused drug in America. There might also be cocaine testing.

There are different kinds of tests that can be used. The most affordable test is the urine test. This is the kind of test that is used by most companies. This will involve testing a urine sample. There is also the hair follicle test. This will require a patch of hair to be removed and subsequently tested for substances.

Substance use is an expensive habit. As a matter of fact, most drugs do not come cheap. Some people end up spending all of their income on alcohol and drugs. This habit also costs companies and the economy dearly. It also costs families. It leaves an emotional and financial burden on families. An individual who is hooked to substances is likely to abandon his family.
