The Components Used For A Golf Course Irrigation

By Helen Phillips

Irrigation systems now are becoming very much useful since the development of sprinklers. Nowadays, the manufacturers are offering some mixtures of different products in order to minimize the control for irrigation and also in order to irrigate the grounds. The simplest type among the irrigation systems were used mostly in residential houses and these types are consist of controllers that are connected to the valves.

However, due to the maintenance of turf that is of high quality, the complexity of these systems have been increasing. Thus, golf course irrigation systems are said to be more complex to residential uses for some reasons. These include low height for mowing, various requirements for water, and high volume for the irrigated area. The following are the different components of the system and how these are being developed.

First, the central control. Sine size and complexity are both increasing, the system acts as the main network for controllers. And among all these networks, the central control can be considered to be the brain. It can be usually located along with the facilities for maintenance. It also controls the sprinklers in the golf courses. It monitors also the weather stations, flow management, and the real time activities.

Second, field controllers. These can sometimes be referred to as satellites. The location of these are inside the metal boxes which are mounted to concrete footings. A central systems will send the directions into the sub component or the field controller and will also send a message to the sprinkler when turning on or off. The controllers have a connection with sprinklers and a central system does not have.

Third is central control for the satellite communication. When a program has been set already to the computer, the central control will then send directions into the satellites. Computers do not have a direct communication with the satellites but communicates rather through an interface. The interface will interpret and will send the instructions. This component can be accomplished in two ways which are the one way or the two way communication.

Fourth, the weather sensors and stations. An advantage of this component is getting conditions having the exact information instead of some readings that came from a regional weather service. The data collections of weather stations are consist of soil moisture, wind speed, humidity, and rainfall.

Evapotranspiration is one process for the total loss of the amount of water because of transpiration and of evaporation. The level is usually high specifically during hot, low humidity, or sunny seasons and low if the season is cool, high humidity, or cloudy. Irrigation process replace soil moisture during evapotranspiration.

How sensor decoders are used is the same as how these are used in valves. The sensors of soil moisture and temperature can be connected to these. In this way, the data will be downloaded into the central system.

And fifth, the storm protection. Storm protection is one very important component. In the irrigation system, the most most common damage type that may occur is a power surge that would probably result to having lightning strikes. The lightning strikes also result to having electrical surges which may be running on wires and can cause damages to sprinklers and some equipment. Storm protection systems are installed in the electrical components.
