Important Tips When Using Hytera Two Way Radio

By Dennis Sullivan

Two way radios could both transmit as well as receive signals which allows the operators to converse with each other using the same frequency. Usually, they operate by letting you either talk or listen but not simultaneously and a button should be pressed when you need to talk. This is called a half duplex mode whereas full duplex mode is when simultaneous talking and listening is allowed.

Half duplex radios are being used by most business establishments because of their longer battery life lasting for twelve hours on average and their durability. Hytera two way radio could be bought and let your employees use them during their working hours. The following are some important tips when these devices are used in communicating with other workers.

Be prepared on what you are going to say because when you pressed the button, no one else can be heard except you. They cannot interrupt you during this time so you have to say your message immediately so that others can talk as well. Pressing it for a long time without speaking will block a possible emergency communication from transmitting and drains your battery faster.

Identify yourself and the person who you intend to receive your message immediately when initiating transmission. This is done to get the attention of the recipient when many users are sharing the same radio frequency. They will then acknowledge that they have your attention and you can then start talking about what you want to say.

Have patience and wait for them to respond because it is possible for them to have some things needed to be done before you call their attention again. Pause after pushing the button and before speaking because short delays are possible when transmitting. The first words might be cut off and waiting a second before speaking helps in making sure the whole message is heard.

Keep your transmission short, concise and clear so it can be acknowledged immediately or a request for clarification will be sent before continuing your point. The recipient usually repeats your words back to let you know that you are heard and understood. Otherwise, you would be requested to repeat what you have said.

Manners are very important when communicating to another personally but this can be dropped as not to take time in the radio. You could say thanks sometimes but being polite is not necessary when communicating in this device. Some terms are used as a code which everyone using the radio understands and helps in shortening the message intended.

Conversations are not private always and other people might be able to listen on the things being talked about. They are probably connected also to the frequency you currently are in so discussing private maters is not recommended. Code terms can instead be used to add security special those codes specific to your company operations only.

Always remember to have your device charged every after the working hours end so that they would be at full power the next day. Have someone assigned to be responsible in charging them when the day ends. Or have each one of your employee responsible for charging their own radio.
